Silicon-wafer coated with nanocrystalline diamond
We have extended our range of products to silicon-substrates coated with nanocrystalline diamond (NCD/Si). We are now able to supply you with diamond coated silicon substrates at any dimension up to 20 cm (8”) in diameter according to your needs. The nanocrystalline diamond-coatings are deposited by means of the unique rho-BeSt chemical vapour deposition technology hence showing the outstanding properties of natural diamond. We provide highly isolating, undoped diamond coatings on doped single crystal silicon with a thickness of either one or two microns as standard.
According to your demands the surface properties of our diamond coatings can be changed from hydrophobic to hydrophilic utilising a subsequent surface termination. The grain size of the nanocrystalline diamond coating is in the range of 10-15 nm irrespective of thickness of coating. Therefore extremely smooth, mirror finish surfaces with 10 nm roughness (RMS) are achieved. But, according to requirements coatings with bigger grains and hence higher roughness can be provided as well.
Substrates: single-crystal silicon, n- or p-doped, different orientations
Shape: standard sizes on stock: 10mm x 10mm, 20mm x 20mm, 4“, 8“,
customised sizes available on request

Specification of diamond coating: a) nanocrystalline, grain size 10-15 nm (independent of thickness of coating), roughness (RMS) 10-15 nm
b) polycrystalline, grain size correlated with thickness of coating, (approximately in the μm-regime)
Transmission depending on grain size and thickness of coating.
Thickness of diamond coating: standard 1 or 2 μm (on stock),
production tolerance/homogeneity: ± 10 %, customised thickness available on request
Surface termination: H-terminated surface: hydrophobic, O- terminated surface: hydrophilic
Applications: MEMS, SAWs (in combination with piezoelectric coatings/substrates as well)
Bio-sensors-systems

This series of Otti seminars is highly popular because top-class lectures are presented to a small circle of listeners!
In the framework of this series of lectures, the seminar “Diverse und Highly Productive: Diamond Coatings – Properties, Manufacture und Uses“ will take place on 25.6.07 and 26.6.07 in Regensburg.
Dr. Doris Steinmüller-Nethl will talk on the subject of “Nanocrystalline Diamond Coatings for Cutting Operations, Electronics and Life Science” and, in the field of Cutting Operations, she will consequently also go in to the new results of CRP/GRP and aluminium processing.
Are you interested in this seminar? Please use the answer form to register directly with Otti e.V. We will be pleased to see you there!
More DRIVE!
Since beginning of this year, the research-team of r-BeSt coating has been completed by another diamond specialist. Dr. Hadwig Sternschulte will be working at r-BeSt in the course of the EU Marie-Curie-project DRIVE.

From Biosensors to Tissue Engineering
With the lecture „Applications of Ultra-nanocrystalline diamond (UNCD) thin films for medical technology” at the MedTec in Stuttgart (March, 7th to 9th 2006) r-BeSt coating presents the numerous possible applications of the nanocrystalline
r-BeSt-diamond coating.
Mariazeller Gespräche 2006

Mrs. Dr. Steinmüller-Nethl was invited to the "Mariazeller Gespräche" in January 2006 - this time it was all about nanotechnologies - and presented the wide range of applications for nanocrystalline diamond coatings.
...the list becomes longer and longer
You can’t coat tungsten carbide grades with more than 6% cobalt? At r-BeSt coating this restriction has been a thing of the past for a long time. Numerous carbide grades of all grain sizes and cobalt contents are coated successfully day after day.
In tungsten carbides you find a list of those carbides, that are coated in large amounts at the moment – ongoing updated. Please order your complete list of all tungsten carbide grades that can be coated here.
The diamond coating with a sensational Lotuseffect!

Due to the extreme smoothness of the ultra-nanocrystalline r-BeSt diamond coating, chips and machined material simply drop off your tool.
Nanocrystalline r-BeSt diamond coatings - !sharpen up!
While in the past the opinion was advanced, that only using thick diamond coatings would reach the desired tool-life result, smooth, thin diamond coatings with all their merits catch on more and more. [read more…]
Latest practical examples - working of aluminum Tools coated with r-BeSt diamond convince again and again with their efficient practical applications – a result from the field of automotive industry can be found here.
Modulus of elasticity/Young’s modulus
The modulus of elasticity is a material characteristic which describes the connection between tension and deformation (mostly expansion) during mechanical stress on a solid body. [read more…]
